Having a repertoire of tasty recipes is a necessity for improving your cooking skills. When you are young, it can seem impossible to know what to cook. Sometimes, you can start to feel stuck when you run out of ideas. It is hard to stay motivated to cook when you do not know what to start cooking.
Cooking is a lifelong and useful skill. With any skill, practice makes perfect. Not only is cooking at home an excellent way to make sure you are eating healthy, it is an essential part of adulthood and an important part of saving money. Knowing how to cook is useful when you have guests over or when you need to impress your family. It is also very rewarding for yourself – you deserve to eat tasty and delicious food!
Here is a list of resources to help you find recipes along the way on your cooking journey:
Word of Mouth
Sometimes what we are looking for is right in front of us. Did you attend a dinner party and love the appetizers that someone made? Ask for the recipe! Is your grandmother an amazing cook? Ask her to teach you some skills. There are likely several people that you know that are excellent cooks. If you truly are interested in learning how to cook, speak up and ask people about their talents. Most people won’t mind teaching you how to make their recipes. Additionally, they will probably be flattered that you like their cooking so much! Nothing beats finding out information right from the source it derived from.

Pinterest is a wonderful place for just about everything. Of course, it is an excellent place to find new recipes as well. Not only can you search Pinterest for recipes, but you can likely find lots of articles about learning how to cook as well. Pinterest is a great platform for discovering new recipes and cooks. If you find one recipe you really love on Pinterest, you can also save it for the future. You can also easily check out the other recipes from the same creator.
Unlike Pinterest, https://www.allrecipes.com is a website dedicated solely to recipes. Here, you can browse many different categories of recipes created by regular people. There are so many categories of recipes to search by that I feel it’s better to just look at the following picture.
There are several aspects of this website that I love (PS this isn’t sponsored at all, so there really is no motivation other than genuine love ). First, there are usually many different reviews on recipes that give great feedback. Thus, not only do you have the original recipe in front of you, but also suggestions and substitution ideas from others that tried.the recipe.
The next thing I love about this site is the ability to search for recipes by entering an ingredient. In my experience, trying new recipes can get expensive since it is unlikely I have everything I need for a specific recipe. With this tool, I can look what is in my cabinet and find recipes using what I already have. In the example below, I searched for recipes using chick peas, since I have so many cans of them, and the website found all of these ways I can use them in my cooking.
When in doubt – ask Google! Google is a great search engine and often holds the answers to a lot of our problems. Of course, it will be a great resource to teach you how to cook as well. If you cannot find out how to perform a certain task, Google is always a great resource to help you. Not every website with valuable information is on Pinterest and not every recipe is on Allrecipes.com. Thus, Google will help you expand your research beyond these two websites. Additionally, you can use Google as a resource to find products and cookbooks that will help you learn to cook.

The Back of Packages
How many of you have completely overlooked the recipes on the side or back of packages you buy? I am definitely guilty of this. However, it is common practice for major companies to list recipes using their products on the packaging of food labels. Or, the companies will often direct you to a website that gives you recipes for their products. If I am ever at a loss for recipes, I often look at what I have in the pantry and see if any items have a recipe on them. This is a great way to use up what you have on hand. It is also a great way to try new recipes!
For most people, cookbooks may be an obvious choice for discovering new recipes. However, many people today are so reliant on the internet to find everything, they do not realize how valuable a classic cookbook can be. You do not need to spend money on cookbooks either. There are plenty of libraries that will let you rent them. Additionally, you may be able to find fairly cheap cookbooks at your local thrift store. While the internet is a great resource for discovering new recipes, cookbooks are great as well. These are wonderful options if you are looking to advance your skills in a certain type of cooking. Some people are also book people instead of the internet – I know I am able to retain information from a book much better than when I am looking at a screen.
Who says you have to look anywhere to discover great recipes? Did you know that you are able to create something tasty yourself? Sometimes the best way to learn how to cook, and to learn new recipes is to experiment with what you have at home and what you already know. For you, perhaps the best way to learn is to just dive right in and start creating concoctions. Perhaps, you can create something tasty by basing your recipes on something you have already made. A lot of times, I will start substituting items from a recipe I know in order to create something new. If you are bored of your normal recipes, try experimenting for fun. Who knows what you will come up with!

Take a Cooking Class
Cooking classes teach you how to cook, and they can also be a fantastic way to learn new recipes and meet new friends! There are several ways to find cooking classes near you. First, a quick google search should yield some results. Additionally, check with local restaurants, community college or even grocery stores. Another great place to check for cooking classes is Groupon. Groupon sells experiences for discounted prices and I have seen cooking classes in my area listed on there several time. Whichever option you choose, you are likely to benefit greatly when enrolling in a cooking class.

Restaurants often have a variety of different items on their menu. If you are looking to find new recipe ideas, look at these menus. Odds are the menus will also list some of the main ingredients used to make the dishes listed. Even if you do not know how to make the recipe, studying menus is a good way to introduce you to new foods and new recipe ideas. If there is something on the menu that you would love to make, remember it and look it up when you get home. You should be able to recreate the recipe after researching how to make it online.
YouTube is a great tool for learning how to cook. But, did you know it is also a great resource for discovering new recipes?!?! There are plenty of creative people that post YouTube recipe videos each and every day. A quick search will reveal all of the recipe videos available for your viewing. YouTube is especially great for beginner cooks since the videos usually show you how to make the recipe and how it should look when you are all done. This is a great option for visual learners.
