Hey everyone. It’s that time of year again: the end of an old year, the beginning of a new one. 2017 has been quite an amazing year for me. With the help of my darling husband, I finally created my own website and started blogging. I completed a few more semesters at school, and I went on so many great adventures. Alas, all good things must come to an end. However, this does not mean that there are not new opportunities to be taken advantage of and new goals to be crushed in the upcoming year. Let’s take a minute to promise ourselves that we will enter the new year with the mindset that we can and will accomplish anything that our hearts desire.
With that being said, I have decided that 2018 is going to be the year where I take my blog to the next level. I want to be amazed at how much my blog has succeeded at this time next year. But, why stop with just my own blog?! The goals I have in mind for 2018 can be applied to everyone. I hope with this post I inspire many of my readers to vow to also take their own blogs to the next level (or, to even start a blog of their own!). Of course, I have to have 18 goals because it is 2018 (well, not really but hey! let’s go with it). Now, let’s get started:
18 Practical Resolutions For Bloggers:
1.Start Making YouTube Videos
Okay, so I might have gotten a head start on this one….Check out my first YouTube video here! Let me know what you think!
In todays day and age, blogging and vlogging are two of the most popular ways to upload content online. Why not combine the two? For me, YouTube is something I have been interested in for a while now. I see YouTube as another way to bring viewers/readers to my content. I am really excited to test out the video making water. While I realize that YouTube may not be for every blogger, it can be a great way for those interested to expand their creative expertise.
2. Post More Consistently
Ah, I have heard over and over that consistency is the key to growing your blog. Unfortunately, I have not been able to post as much as I would have liked to recently. Ideally, I would like to post at least once week in 2018. This would be a fantastic accomplishment for any blogger next year.
3.Make New Blogging Friends
Blogging can mean a lot of time working alone at your computer. As much as some people such as my husband want to help with my website, there is not much they can do without knowing the ins and outs of blogging. Unfortunately, not many people outside of the blogging world understand what goes into it. It would be great to connect and/or collaborate with other bloggers in 2018.
4.Improve Photography Skills
Last year for Christmas, my husband bought me my first DSLR camera. I spent all of 2017 learning the basics of photography and how to be comfortable using my camera. I can finally say that I know how to properly use my camera to take good photos. However, there is always room for improvement with every skill that you learn. Improving your photography skills will definitely improve your blog posts and make the pictures on them stand out. 2018 is the year for bloggers like myself to improve our photography skills.
5.Double Social Media Followings on All Platforms
Or more. As we all know, a greater following on social media means you will get more exposure to your content when you share new posts. I am shocked at how many people I have following me at the end of this year being that I am still a bit new to the whole blogging experience. I would love to continue the trend of gaining followers on all of my accounts into the new year. A good generalized goal to aim for is to double my numbers on all accounts by this time next year.
6.Start Exercising Regularly
Isnt this the resolution on the top of everyones list almost every year?! Well, this year I am serious about committing to regular exercise. I have been very committed to fitness in the past, but this year I have had so much going on that I sort of slacked in this department (I know, this sounds like all the other excuses). Being active can help you think more clearly and be more productive in the long run. Exercising regularly can improve your blog by making you more focused and ready to work!
I remember when I was in high school, the teachers would always say that reading improved your writing by teaching you new vocabulary and proper grammar. Reading is an enjoyable hobby for me, so let’s assume this is true. In 2018, I hope to spend more time reading books that I enjoy. Who knows, maybe reading a lot can even inspire some new blog post topics in the future. Either way, reading more is something I hope to accomplish in 2018.
8.Send More Newsletters
Email newsletters are a great way to stay in touch with interested readers and to drive traffic to your site. When I started my blog, it took me a while to set up my email newsletter signup form. However, I eventually figured it and even gained a few subscribers along the way. Regretfully, I have only sent about 2 newsletters to my subscribers this year. I hope to send newsletter emails on a monthly basis at least by this time next year.
9.Spend More Time Out of the House
Personally, I believe everyone could use a break every now and again. Additionally, I believe being outside of the house can stimulate and refresh the mind. I somehow find it easier to work outside of my comfort zone. I can probably get more work done in 2 hours at the library than 4 hours in my house. Lastly, I just feel happier when I actually leave the house as opposed to staying indoors all day. This may not apply to every blogger. But, for those this does apply to, let’s plan on plan doing more work outside the house and spending more time in new places in the upcoming year.
For me, getting organized means buying a good planner and writing down the days that I am going to post to my website, send newsletters, etc. As a blogger, I need more organization in my life. That is probably something I will always say. Being organized leads to consistency, one of the most important parts of growing a solid following. I feel that being organized will help me keep up with some of my other goals as well like sending newsletters and gaining new followers. In 2018, let’s plan to make organization goals and to enthusiastically stick to them,
11.Travel to at least 1 Bucket List Destination
Traveling is worth a lot more than just the blog post you can write about it afterwards. Traveling is a great way to refresh and awaken the mind. It exposes you to new scenarios and cultures and forces you out of your comfort zone. As bloggers, some times the best way to spark creativity in your posts is to be out of your comfort zone for some time. In 2018, I hope to travel to at least one of my bucket list destinations, and to experience life from an awakened point of view.
12.Learn 1 New Artistic Skill
Part of my blog is dedicated towards DIY and craft projects. Thus, it makes sense for me to want to expand my artistic horizon in the upcoming year. However, learning a new artistic skill is not only beneficial to craft bloggers. Much like traveling, art is a good escape from everyday life. Additionally, being creative in artistic ways can encourage your mind to be creative in other ways as well. In 2018, I hope to pick up painting and calligraphy as regular hobbies. I encourage other bloggers to look into exploring new art forms as well.
This is a personal goal of mine, but I am sure many other bloggers may share the same goal. I am supposed to graduate this year with a BBA majoring in Accounting. Due to some circumstances (like switching to an online program), my graduation date is moved forward a bit. However, I still have high hopes that I will be able to get my degree by the end of the year. Once I am done with school, I will have more time to focus on blogging…yay! I will also be able to start planning my future, and seeing where life will take me. Does anyone else have this goal this year?
14.Create a More Professional Wardrobe
Since I am most likely going to be working in an office setting in the future, this is a must. Hopefully one day there is a point in my life where my blog is taken to the next level. I imagine a future where eventually I would have to meet up with someone at some point in regards to my blog. At one point, I heard someone say something along the lines of: dress for success. I know it may be superficial to think that something as simple as a person’s clothing may impact how they are treated. However, I also feel more confident when I am dressed nice as opposed to when I am not. I know many bloggers probably feel the same. Thus, it is one of my goals for next year to slowly transition to a more professional wardrobe.
15.Post to Social Media More
Working on my #NewYearsResolutions and one of them is to post more to social media. Whats on your list? 💕
— Pearl Innovations (@PIKaitlynnC) December 27, 2017
Social media: the bane of my existence. Well, this may not exactly be the case. However, it is true that I am a bit of a slacker when it comes to posting to my social media accounts. This is something that needs to change in the new year. As we all know, social media can be a blogger’s best friend. It’s great for driving traffic to your site, and for keeping in touch with followers. When I get busy, however, I forget that it’s there. This goal sort of goes along with the getting organized goal. In 2018, you should expect to hear from me a lot more on my social media accounts.
16.Set Daily Blogging Goals
Again, this goal goes along with my staying organized goal. I am most productive when I make lists. I plan to dominate 2018 by making short lists everyday. These lists will describe my blogging goals for the day. I usually do this, but I need to be more consistent with it. For some reason, I stay better focused on my goals when they are written in front of me. By accomplishing a few small goals for my blog each day, I am able to have a lot of blog work complete by the end of the day. I recommend this method for all bloggers. This is definitely how I want to start my mornings each day in 2018.
17.Be More Supportive of Others
I love exploring other blogs. It inspires me to work more on my own blog and to get creative in new ways. In fact, at this point in my blogging journey I believe the majority of my traffic is other bloggers. It is just the most wonderful feeling when someone truly appreciates your work. I would love to share that feeling with more people in the upcoming year. I have received so much support along the way from many bloggers like myself, and I hope to return this support and more in the future.
18.Follow all Resolutions!
We have all fallen into that rut where we make a resolution and forget about it the next week. Haha. This year I am extra motivated to actually follow through with my plans. I am not sure about other bloggers, but setting goals makes me feel very ambitious. 2018 is a new year – a new opportunity to achieve these goals.
