If you were to ask a hundred people the one thing they wish they could do more in the life, the chances are that the answer would be ‘travel.’ And, this answer is with good reason: traveling is awesome! However, while it might be fun and mind-opening, it’s hard to deny that traveling is generally perceived as something “difficult to do.” That is, money matters and real life can prevent us from doing it as often as we’d like. But, is this as true as people think? Below, you can take a look at some tips that will help make traveling a greater part of your life. Here’s to the life we’ve always dreamed of!
No rule says travelling has to involve taking a long plane journey. If you want to experience a different climate, then sure, you’ll have to move. But, if you just want new experiences, it is likely that your local area has you covered. People tend to get stuck in their routines when they’re at home. They go to the same places, take the same roads, and generally stick to what they know. Yet, there are interesting places all over the world; including, yes, your own backyard.
You can take this literally and actually vacation at home, or just take some time to explore places in the local area that you have not explored before. It’s called a staycation. If we’re being honest, a staycation might even take away the stress and hassle that could be included with traveling. So, next time you’re getting the itch to travel, take a look at the sights and attractions within a 1-2 hour drive of you. Who knows what you’ll discover?! You might even be surprised at what’s out there.
You’ve spent a lifetime acquiring friends, so why not visit them?! They might not live in New York City or one of the other tourist hotspots around the world, but they live where they do for a reason – there must be something good about it! Furthermore, visiting friends and family is a great way to travel if you only have a couple of days, because you don’t have to waste any of your trip getting your bearings or figuring out what attractions to see. Your friends can arrange everything for you since they know what there is to see in the area. You might even save money on your trip if you eat at home and sleep on a blow up mattress or couch in your friend’s living room. Most of all, you will make amazing memories with your long-missed friend. Just remember to extend the offer of your own hospitality! After all, your friends probably love to travel too. 😉
Have A Home Abroad
Would it not be awesome to have a home somewhere far away and unique?! No-one travels more than those people who have a second home. Owning a home in a foreign land is the best incentive to get up and go; after all, you own it, so you want to make the most of it! Plus, you wouldn’t have to pay for accommodation each time you visited. If this idea sounds appealing, then you will need to think of where you would like your second home to be based. Asia is a particularly good spot, because there is a different climate than home and, wherever you are located, there will be cheap flights available that will allow you to explore the rest of the continent from your base. You can take a look at some of what’s available at https://rumahdijual.com/surabaya/apartemen-murah, and give travelling a more prominent role in your life. You’ll find your spending more time away from home when you have a comfortable, familiar place to stay just waiting for you at the other end of the flight. I know I would be!
Make the Most of Free Time
One of the main reasons people are unable to travel as much as they would like is because they simply don’t have as much free time as they would like. They are just too busy working, taking care of the kids, etc.! It makes sense – traveling is rarely free, and that money has to be raised somehow. Depending on where you live and the type of job you have, you’ll likely have somewhere between 2 – 4 weeks paid holiday leave each year. However, you probably have much more time than this. There are, after all, plenty of holidays when you don’t have to be at work. When you are lucky, you will have both Friday and the following Monday off. Add a day of booked holiday either side of those days, and you have nearly a week to play with to travel and experience new places!
Be Up for New Experiences
While some people struggle with having enough time to travel, other people have the opposite problem: they have time, but not enough money. However, contrary to popular belief, traveling experiences do not automatically have to have a high cost attached. There are plenty of free experiences that are just as rewarding and exciting as any other type of paid travel experience. For example, there are free walking tours in many European cities where local volunteers tell you about the history of the of the city and show you some of their favorite sights. Check out this one for Venice. You could also utilize volunteer sites like HelpX and Workaway. These connect travelers with people around the around; in exchange for a few hours of (usually interesting) work each day, you will receive (usually interesting) accommodation and food. How interesting is that?! These opportunities are located all over the world, including in your own country. Go check them out!
Get a Remote Job (or Work from Home)
It’s a global world, and while it might seem like we have to work more than ever before, there are also more opportunities to have a location independent job, too. If you can find a job online (look here for ideas), then forget any notion of not being able to travel: the world will be your oyster. You could set up camp in any country that you can afford and for which you get a work visa. If you grow tired of that place, then pack up your laptop and move on further down the road. You could be forever travelling if you so wish. Blogging is just one example of how someone can make money from online. Perhaps, your current job even has offices overseas that you could work at. As long as you have internet connection and you are able to get your work done, there are plenty of opportunities out there to make money straight from your computer or in a different country.
Cut out the Luxuries
If it’s money that’s preventing you from travelling, then why not try to save more money? Most of us are guilty of spending more money than necessary. Think about all of the makeup, outfits, fancy cars, that you might have, but you don’t really need. Having a well-paying job doesn’t mean you’ll be able to travel as much as you’d like if you’re living an expensive lifestyle. If you want to travel more, then make it a priority. It’s much easier to raise money for your travel goals if you’re focused on that and only that. Every time you have spare cash in your wallet, set it aside for a traveling fund instead of buying that coffee drink or pack of gum that you don’t really need. Cutting out the luxuries does not only apply to your everyday life – it also applies when you travel. We all want to stay at gorgeous 5 star hotels and drink lots of fancy cocktail drinks while we are on vacation – don’t we?! But, if you are really passionate about traveling a lot, this might not always be a realistic goal. You will save a ton of money if you cutback on some of these expenses while traveling. Then, all the money you save can be used for your next adventure!
Don’t Wait for Other People
Let me stand on a rooftop in every major city and shout this tip to the entire travel desiring world. Traveling with loved ones is great, but sometimes it isn’t always possible. You might have an insatiable drive to travel, but your friends and family? They have different priorities, or maybe they just want to see different places than you. Most people wait until they have someone else to travel with before they take a trip. But if you’re forever waiting for others, you might never end up going anywhere! Why should you miss out?! Be bold, and go traveling by yourself. Not only will you be challenging yourself, growing as a person, and having fun all at the same time, you will also be free to make all of the decisions! You will be able to do everything you want without having to compromise for someone else. Doesn’t that sound appealing?!
