What is there not to love about summer? The days are longer, the sun shines brighter, and people are generally happier this time of year. Summer is the best time of year for many people, especially those that love adventure. Warm weather provides a lot of opportunities to experience the great outdoors. You do not need to live by a beach to enjoy the adventures that summer has to offer either. There are many opportunities that are most likely within easy reach for most people.
Here is a list of some of the best activities to complete this summer for those that love adventure. If you have a bucket list, you might want to consider adding some or all of these activities to it.
Stand Up Paddle Boarding
Stand Up Paddle boarding seems to be the hit sport this year. The great thing about this activity is that it can be done in almost any body of water. Whether you live by the bay, the lake, or even the ocean, you will be able to enjoy paddle boarding. You can even take paddle boarding to another level and try attending yoga class that is performed on stand up paddle boards. Not to mention, paddle boarding is a great full body workout! Now isn’t that awesome?
Kayaking is similar to stand up paddle boarding since it can also be done in any body of water. However, there is a major difference in a kayak: you are sitting down. Additionally, kayaks can usually withstand rougher waters and hold more storage. One awesome sport to try is surf kayaking. If you love adventure, you’re sure to love riding the waves in a kayak this summer!
White Water Rafting
If you are looking to try a sport that will fuel your adrenaline craving, you might want to consider white water rafting. White water rafting involves riding in a raft with several people through a river that has rough waters and even waves. There are 6 classes of white water rafting with 1 being the easiest and 6 being the hardest. Class 6 white water can be seriously dangerous, even for experienced rafters. If you take the proper safety precautions and don’t exceed your limits, white water rafting can be an excellent activity to try this summer.
Snorkeling / Diving
If you live by a body of water, you should consider snorkeling or divingthis summer. Take a break from the hectic lifestyle on land and peek into an entire world of sea creatures beneath us. The great part about snorkeling and diving is that every trip you take underwater is unique – you never know what you will see. If you enjoy traveling, it can be a great hobby to try snorkeling and diving at each location you travel to. If you choose to go scuba diving, once you are comfortable underwater, you can even take up a new hobby like underwater photography, cave diving or hunting. The possibilities are endless.
If you love being outside, camping is something you need to add to your summer bucket list. Sometimes you just need to get away from the technology filled world around you and soak in the great outdoors. You can bring along some friends and make your trip a weekend getaway. There are many places to go camping whether it be the beach, forest, or mountains. If you find tent camping to be a hassle, you may even consider glamping. Glamping combines the experience of solitude with modern luxuries.
Hiking – Visit a State Park
Hiking is a great way to spend a day! Nothing beats getting exercise, sunshine and relaxation at the same time. There are loads of options for hiking trails from advanced to super easy. Hiking is also a fun way to get the kids and dogs out of the house. While hiking, you may even stumble upon interesting plant and wildlife species. If you find that you really enjoy hiking, you could even start preparing for some incredibly long and rewarding hikes like the Appalachian Trail. State parks are excellent places to start looking for interesting trails near you – check one out today!
Unless you are afraid of heights, who wouldn’t love gliding through a scenic atmosphere? When you go ziplining, there is a wire connecting two points and special equipment secures you to the wire allowing you to glide from point A to point B. Ziplining seems like a sport that you would only be able to do in luxurious destinations. However, you may be surprised to find a ziplining park close to home if you do a little research. You do not need a grand view to have a fun adventure ziplining.
How about you take your adventure to the next level by jumping out of a plane? Despite everything we hear about skydiving, it is actuallyquite safeand getting safer each year. The adrenaline rush that you receive from jumping out of a plane is like no other. You will jump out of the plane and freefall for a few seconds that will feel like an eternity. Then, you will pull the parachute string and float back to earth as you recover from the adrenaline rush associated with freefall. Unless you have been skydiving a few times before, you will likely have to do a tandem dive with an instructor. So, you don’t have to worry about not knowing what to do since they are trained and there to help you 100% of the way.
Bungee jumping is arguably one of the most extreme sports on this list. This is when you would jump from a high building or structure with an elastic cord attached to you. I have actually never been bungee jumping, and I have to admit that I am pretty scared to try it. You have to be very brave for this sport since there is no parachute to save your fall if something were to happen. If you really want to have the most adventuours summer ever, make plans to visit one of these destinationsfor some of the best bungee jumping in the world.
Visit an Amusement Park
Amusement parks are designed for thrill seekers. Of course, visiting one should be added to your summer bucket list. Visiting the amusement park with friends and family is a great way to spend a summer day with the ones you love. There will be something for everyone to enjoy there. Be sure to do your research to find out the best times to visit the park in order to avoid having to wait in long lines. Also, be sure to wear good shoes and comfortable clothes since you will likely be doing a lot of walking. If the roller coasters take pictures of you while you are riding, don’t forget to check those out after the ride for some good laughs.
Of course, there are a lot more adventurous activities to try than what is listed. However, these are some of my favorite ways to have fun in the summer. If I complete at least half of these activities before the fall, I would say I had a pretty awesome summer.
