Until recently, I have never had an Apple computer. I grew up using computers with Windows in school, so it makes sense that I was always more comfortable with PCs as an adult. While in college, I knew quite a few people who had converted over to a MacBook. However, whenever I tried to use their computers, it was always a little intimidating for me. The foreign computer system seemed like a lot to learn and get used to.
Anyways, I never really had problems with my PC to begin with and I never really saw a need to switch to a MacBook. It worked, I was able to accomplish what I needed to, and I was comfortable using it. Additionally, I’m not really the type of person that splurges on new technology. Before I got my MacBook Pro, I was using my husband’s old gaming PC that he passed on to me a few years ago. Being 5-6 years old, that computer eventually started having issues with battery life and running certain programs.
As talk of purchasing a new laptop arose, my tech savvy husband highly suggested purchasing a MacBook Pro. Though hesitant, I took his advice. At first, I was flabbergasted learning how to use my new laptop. Soon, however, I was in love with my MacBook. Most of the things I love about the computer are things I did not even realize needed improvement. My life is so much easier with my upgrade, and I could not be happier with my purchase.
If you are wondering exactly which laptop I purchased, you can find it here.
PS: this post is not sponsored in any way, so my opinions are not influenced in any way, shape or form.
Here are the best things about my MacBook:
Compared to my old computer, my MacBook is super light. It is so easy to pick up and carry around the house without a hassle. It is quite compact, so I am able to fit it in my laptop bag with ease. I also am able to carry it in my bag for long periods of time without hurting my shoulder or back. It is the perfect size for traveling and working on the go.
This is a feature many people might not even know exist or care about until they need to use it. Zip files are often required to send multiple documents over emails and are great for conserving space on your computer. With my old laptop, there were several steps I had to take to create a zip file. I even had to download a separate application on my computer to do so. Now, however, all I have to do to create a zip file is right click (or 2finger click depending on your settings) on a folder and select “compress (folder name)”. It is painless, simple and quick! How could I ask for more?
It’s Function Keys
I am in love with the top row of function keys on my Mac. With these buttons, I can easily adjust the screen brightness, volume, battery usage, and more by just clicking them. These features are conveniently located and are super easy to adjust. In fact, I don’t think it could get any easier. Buttons F1-F2 adjusts the brightness of the screen; F3-F4 quickly brings you to the Launchpad or dashboard screens; F5-F6 adjusts the brightness of the lights on the keyboard (something I didn’t even know I could do); F7-F9 pauses, forwards or rewinds videos; lastly, F9-F12 turns the volume up and down. I love being able to easily adjust the brightness of my screen, and it’s great having the ability to quickly adjust the volume of my headphones.
It’s Battery Life
One of my biggest complaints about my old laptop was the battery life. It would die quickly and unexpectedly no matter what I was using the computer for. The computer rarely lasted over 40 minutes before I had to charge it and it was definitely not convenient. This may be part of the reason why I am so happy with the battery life on my MacBook. With one charge, the battery is good for several hours. It could even last 2-3 days before I have to charge it again, depending on how much I use. It is incredibly convenient and perfect for busy days when I am on the computer a lot completing homework and work for my blog.
It’s Color Quality
If you have visited my site, then you know I take a lot of my own pictures. On my old computer, I ran into a huge issue with image quality. I would edit a photo on my laptop, then check it out on either my phone or a different computer, and the colors would be completely off. I would often end up with over exposed photos that I had to adjust later on a different advice. In short, it created a lot of extra work for myself. Today, I am relieved that my MacBook has such accurate color quality. I am highly impressed with how great my images look on this computer.
It’s USBC Plugs
The USBC plugs are convenient for several reasons. First, they are smaller than USBB cords that were on my previous computers and you can plug them in either face up or face down – both sides work the same. Second, as long as you have an adapter, the USBC plugs are compatible with USBB and USBA systems as well. Lastly, the USBC plugs can also be used to charge a lot of newer technology that is currently being released. In short, you can use the same charger to fuel your computer, phone, and other products. I’m glad I won’t be needing so many chargers for my electronics anymore!
Really, the organization section can be broken down into two separate sections. First, the Launchpad is a beautiful way to display all of the user’s applications in a neat and organized fashion. I love being able to see pictures of all of my applications displayed right in front of me. Not to mention, the search bar makes it really easy to find anything.
Now, it is worth it to mention the dockdisplayed at the bottom of the screen at all times. This dock displays a variety of different applications to open, including those you are currently working in. The great thing about the dock is that it is completely customizable. You can add or delete applications to display based on your personal preferences. You can even make the sizes of the applications smaller or larger depending on what you prefer. I love that I no longer have to sort through folders and click lots of buttons just to find a program that I run nearly everyday!
I will admit, it took me a few days to get used to the trackpad on my Apple laptop. However, I am now extremely satisfied with all of it’s features. If you are unaware, the trackpads on Apple’s newer laptops allows you to perform a variety of actions depending on how you swipe it. While I could try and go into detail explaining everything myself, I found a nifty articlethat utilizes very helpful GIFs that explain the trackpad’s most popular abilities.
Another feature of the trackpad that I have come to enjoy is the 2-finger right click. Instead of right clicking the trackpad like you would on the PC, you can use click with 2 fingers to display the right click options. At first, I did not like this feature, but now I prefer it and find it super convenient.
Running Programs Smoothly
As stated above, I edit a lot of my own photos that I take using Adobe programs. Additionally, I am taking a graphic design class in college as well as my accounting classes which require me to run many different programs on my computer throughout the day. I had a lot of problems with my previous laptop because it would freeze when I tried to run some of the programs that I needed.
So far, my MacBook Pro runs every program that I need perfectly – which is truly amazing for a laptop, in my opinion. I can now get all of my work done in a timely fashion without having to worry about having a backup computer in case things go awry. Having a reliable computer makes my life a lot easier and stress-free!
Whenever I am downloading files, it shows up in the bottom left corner of the screen. Not only do the files I just downloaded show up, but files I have recently downloaded appear as well when you click the downloads icon. I no longer have to open up the files folder to find what I am looking for because it is all right there on the bottom of the screen. I love having this ability because it makes it super easy to access what I need in a timely matter.
As you can see, I am very happy with my purchase. My MacBook Pro is efficient, easy to use, and exceeds my expectations. While I cannot compare to other newer laptops that I have not tried, I can say this is one of the best laptops I have ever had. I love it so much that I was compelled to write about it and tell the world how happy I am.
I know this is a sensitive topic for some, but I have to ask. Which do you prefer – Apple or PC laptops? Let me know in the comments.
